Besides being a weather nerd, this perfectly illustrates another reason I watch the forecast so much. How would I know tomorrow to wear a short sleeve cotton dress and cardigan to work, and the next a heavy wool coat, a warm outfit underneath that involves leggings, and insulated rain boots?

In other news, the Christmas cantata is Saturday and Sunday. Rehearsals scheduled Thursday and Friday nights... for now. [ominously, with plenty of eyebrow] 

You're invited to begin the Christmas season with Christ Chapel’s annual Christmas Cantata, “Sing A Song Of Christmas.” Featuring majestic arrangements of traditional Christmas carols, the Cantata will tell the story of Christ’s birth through beautiful music.

In addition to hearing the Cantata Choir and Sanctuary Orchestra, we will also be blessed with a very special carol arrangement by our children’s choir, MusicPraise, and by our Youth Bells.

Wow. The first part isn't too far off from our 80-to-40 degrees flip-flop recently--but I don't envy you what's supposed to follow that! :o

And here I've been annoyed that our highs are staying connsistently in the upper 70s to low 80s. I don't like it to get too cold, but I would like it to actually feel a *little* refreshingly cool when I go out. And to have a chance to wear my trenchcoat... or my alchemist coat. ;)

The 80-to-40 thing (and 70-to-30) is fairly typical of December for us, when winter is really trying to move in but there's still a lot of warm air pushing back in. The unusual part is the both the extent and the duration of the extreme cold. They're currently predicting a low of 15° on Monday night, and next Wednesday's *high* will be 40°! That's seriously cold. It would be notable in mid/late January, and is very unusual in early December.

I totally understand that annoyance. I've been dealing with it this week, and particularly last week! I like the heat better, but I sure do enjoy being able to wear coats and boots and have cool weather form time to time. I'm fortunate that we really do get four seasons here, even if the lengths of each season aren't nearly equal, and transitions are a bit abrupt.

Eek! Stay warm!

(15° is just a few degrees below the worst we've ever had here. According to a quick search, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Orlando was 18°--and the lowest ever in the state was -2°. Both in the 1890s. I'm pretty sure we were below 20° during the legendary 1989 freeze, though, as well as the one that contributed to the Challenger shuttle disaster.)

I don't mind not having too much winter, but I would like the summer that takes up most of our year to be a lot shorter... so, yeah, a real spring and fall would be nice. :Þ
