It's snowing again...

And it's 37 degrees, the flakes are big, nothing is sticking, everything is soaking wet, and there's practically no wind, unlike last Thursday's tornado.
It's still pretty.
The attic is more or less clean, I've more or less cleaned the heaps of mail off my desk, the boys are playing computer games, and Dad and Mom should be getting back from Home 'n' Depot with a rented enormous ladder to put a ceiling fan in our 14' high dining room. And I'm sitting down to sew chemises and watch Pride and Prejudice yet again, but with Trevor this time. :)
Oh, and I bought that muff, after seeing Lady Catherine's enormous ermine-and-tassels affair. This is mink, I think, with no tassels but nice sateen lining and finishing and a name label sewn inside, written with nice Spencerian handwriting. Pictures forthcoming. Someday I shall have need of a Regency winter outfit. Right? Of course right!

Date: 2009-12-30 10:59 am (UTC)If I can figure it out, I'll make an inside pocket, so that the muff doubles as a handbag. It's always difficult to find period ways to stash the necessary accoutrements of modern life!
Hmmm, now I need to figure out some kind of headdress, since my hair is not long enough to look right - it's the details that make the effect! Shoes won't really show under the long dress, so plain dark practical ones will have to do.

Date: 2009-12-30 05:15 pm (UTC)I decided that a veil with some kind of circlet would be the easiest headdress to do. After searching through my fabric stash for something appropriate, I realized that I already have a hand-hemmed white linen square - which I folded diagonally and tied as a scarf for Ioreth. Opened, with a point falling over my forehead, it will make a perfect veil! A dark blue covered strip of batting, surrounded by silver netting (all ingredients that I have on hand) will top it off. Voila!
Now to cut the fabric for the dress...

Date: 2009-12-31 04:05 am (UTC)There was another muff at the antique mall, definitely mink and probably late 1950s or 1960s. It was quite small, but had a metal zipper inside so there was a pocket. I think that was pretty standard on a lot of muffs!
