I figure the Costume College "pool party," whenever that happens and whatever it looks like, would be a good excuse to make this pattern.

Inspired by Lauren's 1940 play suit, I think I want to try a feedsack print for this one. And I'm not going to gamble anything on finding lots of the same one; I'll be happy to find enough to do the top. I can do the shorts/skirt in a solid linen or linen/cotton, and trim the top with binding from it.

To my surprise, there's a lot to choose from on Etsy. I'm leaning more toward a novelty prints and geometrics florals.

Squee!! That is insanely cute! How would you ever choose between so many great fabrics!?!? I think my favorite one is the second from the bottom - the one that looks like jellybeans. But they are all so fab!

I can't choose - that's why I asked you all! Big lot of help you're being. ;) The jellybeans is great; there's only 25" x 26" of it, though. Hmm. I need to get the pattern out and see precisely how much I need to do the top.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like enough. I also really like 3, 5 and the cowboy one would be SO FUNNY for the Texas girl in Calli!

Wouldn't it?! They do a lot of southwestern stuff there, but Texan is its own thing!

Completely unrelated, but I'm watching the Weather Channel's reports of tornadoes around your area. I'm praying for your safety. Give us a status report when you can! *hugs*

We're okay! Reports of baseball-sized hail a mile from us, but we got barely any rain at all. There were three waves of storms, and one of my coworkers got three rounds of hail. Thank you for the prayers; they may have kept us safe. And the brothers, too - they were a lot closer to the action and near a hook echo. It was one of the wildest storm nights I've ever seen. Very unpredictable.

CUTE!!
Man... I don't know! They're all amazing! I like the second to last- reminds me of flying jelly beans. hehe.

Guess I have a great eye, huh? ;) Not helpful when it comes to making a decision, though. You and Jen both went for the jellybeans, but I looked at it again and there's only 25" x 26". I kind of doubt that's enough for a whole top, even without sleeves.

I think the top print looks appropriate for the pattern, though the others are cute as well. Some (like cowboy or Victorian) seem "off-topic" for a period piece of clothing, though I don't know about historical usage...

From what I understand, novelty prints were very popular in the 30s-50s, and showed up in everything from childrens' clothes to high-dollar silk dresses. I actually like the cowboy prints in particular, but it doesn't feel quite as right for the playsuit. And somehow I'm wanting some pink in there.

So #6 is the other print with pink in it (since the jelly beans aren't enough) - I can see that! It also has blue, which would make a nice skirt/shorts, if you make it/them solid. That print does have a summery/vacationy feeling to it.

I agree on the cowboy print - it's cute, but doesn't look right for the play suit. I think it's the color combination that doesn't feel right to me.

Yeah, I like the colors in #6. A little like 50s tepees, but cute. :) And good colors for the shorts or whatever.

The whole thing comes across too dark. A cowboy print on a white background would be my preferred. Hmm, maybe I can direct my on etsy a bit more...
