1.  Ladies' Christmas Brunch for church.  I didn't decorate a table this year, but I helped my mother set up hers. The array and elegance of decorations was really good this year! As was the food, and the speaker. It was a good morning.
2.  Playing around with dyeing again. I overdyed a dress that I spilt red candle wax on last year. It was tedious and slightly stressful, but I averted any mess and the dress is lovely.
3. Cooking! While watching "It Takes a Thief" in the evening, I made leek and potato soup again. I also made "hard sauce," from my great-grandmother's recipe.  It's to go on a gingerbread cake I'm taking to a Christmas party on Sunday night. I'm not sure why it's a "hard" sauce, because it's essentially icing: butter, powdered sugar, and three flavorings, including lemon. It's still really good!

mmmmm...icing. Hm. If it doesn't harden after application that's quite curious. :-)

Huh, I hadn't thought of it like that. I thought it would be something more like a sauce for rum cake. Not necessarily with rum in it, but a very richly-flavored sauce. Like syrup.

Ah. 'Hard' as in hard liquor. I see. When I saw the powdered sugar it made me think of the drizzly-type of glaze I'd put onto an anise cookie which hardens when it dries. There's no butter involved in that, though. In any case, a gingerbread cake sounds wonderful. I hope you had a lovely dinner. :-)

*snorks belatedly at the entry's middle tag*

Speaking of cooking, I'm still interested in that hot-pink cider recipe you told me about!

:D

Oh! It's technically bright pink-red. I don't have exact things, but here it is:

big container or two of apple cider (I think they're one gallon)
regular package of red hot candies
about 6 sticks of cinnamon (totally guessing here)
cloves (maybe 3 T? also a guess)

My mother makes it in a big coffee urn. So the cider goes in the urn itself, and the candies, cinnamon, and cloves in the basket. So it "brews" the cider: the spices are left in the basket, and the candies all disappear.

Thanks! :D

And speaking of things we discussed ages ago, here's that hilarious music video I once told you about that features the entire cast of "The Muppet Show".

I think the funniest part may be when Kermit is snuggling up to the lead singer's shoulder, and he can't keep a straight face. :D Really, how awesome would it be to get to appear with the real, original Muppets?

*wants to see Vincent Price's appearance on "The Muppet Show" again*

Oh, yes! Or when Miss Piggy shoves him away from the mike, then just looks at him, and he grins. So awesome!
